We would like to thank Rose and Phoebe Skinner for raising an incredible £1,300 as part of our Bake for Bobath campaign, sponsored by Slater and Gordon.
Every year for the past eight years, the sisters have baked and held cake sales in order to raise money for children who have cerebral palsy in Wales. They were inspired to get involved in the campaign because a teacher they had at school has a little girl with the condition.
Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales provides specialist therapy and treatment to children across Wales living with cerebral palsy. The charity not only supports the children but gives families advice and help if they need it. Cerebral palsy is one of the most common disabilities in children and affects an estimated 1,800 children in Wales.
Andrew Skinner, Dad to the 15 and 18 year-olds, is very proud of the amount the girls have raised. “The girls were keen to get involved with Bake for Bobath after hearing that their teacher’s daughter, Alice, received really great treatment from Bobath Wales. In early 2010 we saw a flyer for the Bake for Bobath fundraising event and the girls thought it would be a good idea to participate and see if they could raise money for the local charity that helped Alice and other children. It really all went on from there and I’m so proud of them for raising as much as they have!”
Last year, the charity raised £1.2m, with 76% of donations coming from the public. Therefore getting people involved in a campaign like this is really important.
Emily Anthony, Events Co-Ordinator at Bobath Wales, would like to thank Rose and Phoebe for their support and getting involved with the campaign. “The amount that Rosie and Phoebe have raised over the past eight years is incredible. Without supporters like this, Bake for Bobath simply wouldn’t happen year after year. It just goes to show that anyone anywhere can get involved and put the fun back into fundraising!”
