We are delighted to announce that the following inspirational Ladies from Wales will be joining us at our ‘A Question of Women – Fashion and Beauty special’ on the 10th May at Cardiff Marriott Hotel.
Sian Grigg – Guest Speaker
Born in Cardiff, Sian Grigg studied at Ysgol Uwchradd Glantaf and completed a year’s foundation course at Cardiff Art College before leaving for London to study Makeup and Hair for Film,TV and Theatre at the London Collage of Fashion. Sian has worked as a freelance Makeup Artist in the film industry since 1991 and has worked as a personal makeup artist to the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Natalie Portman and Kate Hudson.
She is best known for her work on critically acclaimed projects such as Saving Private Ryan (1998), The Aviator (2004), The Departed (2006), Inception (2010) and Django Unchained (2012). Sian was awarded the ‘Sian Phillips’ Award at the 25th BAFTA Cymru Awards in 2016.
This was the first time that a Makeup designer had received this special award. Sian has also won a BAFTA for ‘Best Makeup and Hair’ on ‘The Aviator’, and has been nominated for both a BAFTA and an Oscar Award for her work on ‘The Revenant’.
Abigail Love – Guest Speaker
Abigail studied at Aberdare Girls Comprehensive before obtaining a BA Hons degree in Fashion Knitwear Design from The Nottingham Trent University where she won a worldwide competition that resulted in her collection being exhibited at international designer exhibition Pitti Filatti. Following on from that, her work was then published in Italian Vogue.
Since then, Abigail has worked as a Fashion Designer for Marks and Spencers, Peacocks, Tesco’s and Jane Norman as well as being the Design Consultant for Katie Price’s Babywear range and Consultant Creative Director for Tempest Fashion.
In 2014 Abigail launched her own fashion label ‘RAIN’. RAIN is described as a bohemian luxury ladies wear brand that is inspired by the rhythm of gypsy soul and western charm. RAIN’s first collection saw 30 stockists across the UK, Ireland and Ibiza. They were also some of the most sought after statement fashion items in TOPSHOP for the Christmas period of 2015.
Sophie Pycroft – guest Speaker
Sophie Pycroft is the co-owner of Spectrum Collections – the makeup brushes taking the internet by storm!
Sisters Sophie and Hannah Pycroft started Spectrum Collections from their garage in Barry, Wales and in less than four years have grown a company that is worth an estimated twelve million pounds.
5 years on from when they started the business in 2014, they have grown their team to 10 members of staff, and the sisters have secured collaborations with Disney and Paramount Pictures, as well as retailing their products into 400 Boots stores.
Angharad Mair – Host
Angharad Mair is a Welsh television presenter, previously the lead presenter on the nightly S4C Welsh language news programme, Heno and the BBC Wales news programme, Wales Today.
Born in Carmarthen, South Wales, her first jobs were working in Tesco and The Ivy Bush Royal Hotel in Carmarthen. After training and working for BBC Wales, where she worked on the Welsh language children’s programme Bilidowcar, Mair joined Llanelli-based independent television production company Tinopolis in 1991. She still presents Wedi7, and is currently the Executive Director for Tinopolis.
Alongside presenting, Angharad is also a keen runner. After a challenge from a colleague, Mair ran her first full marathon in New York city in 1991, in a time of 3:29:00. This amazing result for a beginner meant she kept training and won the Reykjavik Marathon in 1996. She entered the trials for the Great Britain athletics squad for the 1997 World Championships in Athens, Greece, where she came 23rd in the Women’s Marathon in a time of 2:42:31. In 2016 Mair set a new British record for the marathon, in the W55 Category, by completing the London Marathon in a time of 2.57.46.
