Oes yna rhywun sydd yn siarad Cyrmraeg?

Can you speak Welsh? Could you support us by volunteering your time? If the answer is yes, then please contact the fundraising team as we would really appreciate and benefit from having a Welsh speaking volunteer. Diolch yn Fawr!

Volunteer Gardener Required

Bobath Children's Therapy Centre Wales is looking for a volunteer gardener to spare a few hours each week to keep their garden area tidy. The Centre's garden is very much designed with the children in mind, particularly the sensory garden and play area.

Nearly 300 children with cerebral palsy from throughout Wales attend the centre. The garden provides them with an interesting environment in which to be challenged and stimulated, as well as a pleasant garden area to just sit and relax in.

If you feel that you can help with general gardening tasks such as weeding, pruning, planting and clearing of leaves etc please call Emma Bennetts, Volunteer Co-ordinator on 02920 522600. Equipment and materials will be provided.

A Volunteer's Story

My daughter, Tina worked with Mandy who is the mother of Ieuan one of the children who attends Bobath Children's Therapy Centre Wales. When Ieuan was about 4 years old Mandy invited my family to a fundraising BBQ at the Centre. One of the Trustees took us on a tour of the Centre and explained how the charity came into being.

I thought no more about it until I saw an article in the local paper about the charity and their need for volunteers. I wrote to Paul Lubas the Chairman of Trustees, explaining that my husband had died about a year before and I would like to do something helpful and interesting to help. And, that is how I came to be a volunteer.

My work consists of a little bit of everything from stuffing envelopes, entering information onto a database to counting money, which I especially love doing! Whenever somebody would thank me for doing a job, I would reply "That's okay I'll get to Buck House one day", and I DID. I was invited along with three members of staff to a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace, which was a day to remember.

Going back to the beginning, about eighteen months before visiting the Centre for the first time, my late husband and I were walking around a local park with our little grand daughter when we met Mandy, her husband Gareth and Ieuan. There was our grandchild six months younger than Ieuan toddling around having great fun and Ieuan lying in a special pushchair. I always remember my husband saying to me "It makes you wonder what you can do to help", and that I think steered me in the right direction. I can't promise you'll get invited to Buck House but you will have great fun and the satisfaction that you are helping to make a difference to some very special children.
