This is a part-time role 18 hours per week, although you could be asked to do more at busy times.

Clinical Effectiveness Project Assistant

We are looking for a highly organised, friendly and numerate person to join our therapy team in a support role. This is a part-time role, one or two days per week, until 31st March 2015. The successful candidate may be offered the opportunity to work additional hours in the short term. Pay: £8.72 per hour.

What is the Therapy Assistants Course?

This is a two day Introductory Course aimed at introducing Therapy Assistants to the Bobath Concept and helping them to work more effectively with children with cerebral palsy.

Who is the course for?

The course is suitable for Therapy Assistants (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy) who have more than one year’s experience of working with children with cerebral palsy.

Aim: To broaden the Therapy Assistant’s understanding of the Bobath Concept and its application to children with cerebral palsy.

Objectives:

• To familiarise participants with the Bobath approach to management of children with cerebral palsy.

• To review the different types of cerebral palsy & explain how their atypical muscle tone, postures and movement patterns could affect their function.

• To demonstrate Bobath principles of treatment to influence how children with different types of Cerebral Palsy perform activities (e.g. walk, play. Communicate, eat & drink).

What is the Introductory Course?

The course is designed to give course participants an insight into the use of the Bobath concept through demonstrations, discussions and lectures.

Because of the introductory nature of this course, there will not be an opportunity for practical handling by course participants.

Objectives:

• To familiarise therapists with the basic concepts that underpin the Bobath approach to treatment.

• To demonstrate the interdisciplinary nature of assessment and treatment using the Bobath approach.

• To discuss the implications of an understanding of child development to the treatment of cerebral palsy.

• To demonstrate the assessment and treatment of children with spastic and dyskinetic features of cerebral palsy.

Who is the course for?

The course is aimed at physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and
doctors who work with children with cerebral palsy or who hope to work in paediatrics in the future.
