INFANT MOTOR PROFILE (IMP) COURSE

Date/Time:              Thursday 2nd February 2017 - Friday 3rd February 2017

Location:                 Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre Wales, Cardiff

We are delighted to welcome Dr Kirsten Heineman, University of Groningen, The Netherlands, to the Children’s Therapy Centre, Wales for the first UK based 2 day course on The Infant Motor Profile (IMP).

The IMP is a novel instrument to assess motor development in infancy. It is a video-based assessment for infants aged 3 to 18 months based on about 15 minutes of spontaneous motor behavior in supine, prone, sitting, standing, walking and during reaching and grasping – depending on the age of the infant. The IMP includes information both about the infant’s motor achievement and also about the way in which the infant accomplishes his/her achievements. The qualitative aspects of the assessment are based on the principles of Neuronal Group Selection Theory (NGST). Key parameters in IMP assessment are the variety of infant’s motor repertoire, the infant’s ability to make an adaptive selection out of his/her repertoire as well as performance symmetry and fluency of movement domains. Studies indicate that the IMP has good reliability, promising validity and it can be used in infants with atypical development.

This 2 day course will cover the theoretical background of NGST and the IMP followed by practice sessions on applying and scoring the IMP using existing video recordings and also video footage of infants/children taken during the course.

Fee:      £175.00 (includes coffee/tea and lunch)
